Caching Conundrum #26 Results – February 2014

It’s February, which means the Conundrum-eers are tasked with slaying the dragon known as Sudoku. Word on the street was this month’s quiz was brutally difficult. Not a single player finished all four puzzles. Maybe the creators need to dial it down a bit!

When the scores were tallied, 4boysexplore grabbed their first victory of 2014. Full results:

Caching Conundrum #25 Results – January 2014

The Caching Conundrum turned two this week! Hoping to avoid the terrible twos, we wiped the scoreboards clean and everyone entered the first competition tied for first. As is January tradition, the theme was crossword puzzles.

The mix of traditional and offbeat crosswords tested the wordsmiths in the room, but the results were resounding: these players are veritable walking dictionaries!

To view this month’s puzzle, point your browser HERE. (errata: note the misspelling of “wherigo” in the second puzzle; the answer to 1 Down is “whereigo”)

When the scores were tallied, facefromthepast jumped out to a lead in 2014’s yearlong race to the title:

Licking River Clean Up CITO Event

Licking River
Clean Up

CITO Event (GC4EJAR)
http://coord.info/GC4EJAR

St. Louisville, Ohio
September 7th, 2013  8am – 1pm

A chance to have some wet and wild fun, and to make a difference in a wonderful little community as well!

We’ll “officially” kick things off at 8am and wrap things up at 1pm, but you’re welcome to join us at any time and help for as long as you can stay.

This event is in conjunction with the Licking County Soil & Water Conservation “Licking River Roundup”, and the first 150 people to pre-register for the event will receive a free T-Shirt! (UPDATE: Looks like the T-Shirts have all been distributed)

YOU MUST SIGN A WAIVER OF LIABILITY to participate in this event. The forms will be available on site the morning of the event, but can also be downloaded at:

http://www.lickingswcd.com/upload/images/pdf/Calendar__Events/Licking_River_Round_Up_Waiver_of_Liability_2013FINAL7-29-13.pdf

We’ll be meeting at the St. Louisville Community Center (at the posted coordinates) and heading over to the North Railroad Bridge to start our clean-up effort. We’ll follow along the banks of that section of the river (about a 1 mile section), to wrap things up once we reach the South Railroad Bridge (both bridges are listed below under “additional waypoints”) and head back to the Community Center.

Bring some OLD clothes, gloves, and some water shoes/fivefinger shoes/old shoes (they will get wet). It should be a great time!

And for those aquaphobians, there’s plenty of areas on the banks to clean up if you prefer to remain (mainly) dry.

A .KML track file of the path (including some nearby geocaches) can be downloaded HERE: RiverCleanUp.KML

Adventures In Geocaching!

Adventures in Geocaching EventCOG-LPDJoin us for “Adventures in Geocaching” with the Licking Parks District

Saturday, August 3rd, 2013
at the Infirmary Mound  – Granville, Ohio
1:00pm

We need LOTS and LOTS of geocachers to help us out!!  “Actual” geocachers will be placing containers and creating temporary hides in the park’s 316 acres from 1:00p-3:30p.

The public (mostly local girl scouts and cub scouts) will arrive at 3:30pm, get a brief “this is geocaching 101” tutorial, and get paired up into small groups with the geocachers to find all of the containers that were hidden earlier.

Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the event.

This will be LOTS of fun!!! We’ve worked with the local scouts teaching geocaching for the past few years, and the kids are AWESOME!! Very eager to learn and to have fun!

AdventuresInGeocachingWe have no idea how many to expect (of either cachers or visitors), but obviously we need as many GPS units as possible (and experienced owners thereof) to make this work… my biggest fear is that I will end up performing solo for a massive group of muggles (grin).

SPREAD THE WORD to all of the local cachers and caching groups you know, as well as any non-cachers that may be interested. The event flyer for visiting non-geocachers can be downloaded here… http://tinyurl.com/geoadventure
